My friends insist my dad was a spy, either that or a conman. And I guess we did move across continents without a moment’s notice, and take “mystery drives” in the middle of the night, and go to local schools in countries where we didn’t speak the language. And it was amazing. It was never very 007, more like a 637, so what does this have to do with this letter and why I might be the right person to fill your position of Creative Director? Living around the world instilled in me an insatiable curiosity - for people, culture, food, architecture, cars, technology, animals, ideas, art, weather, fashion... everywhere we lived added to the foundation of who I became - a curiosity geek with stuff filed away in my head that I could tap into as needed. I learned to kill a chicken in the Kampongs of Malaysia, sat in the pits at Formular 1, a few months later had a wombat snuffling past my bedroom window in Sydney and then lived in a town of 5000 people in Holland ending up in a tiny and an awesome Dutch school. I describe these things because they have fueled my imagination my whole life and led me along the never dull journey of becoming a creative. My curiosity and love of insight and the purpose of things have continued to expand and is why I love what I do. They help me help someone scratch an itch they didn’t know they had, they let me share with others the beauty of laughter and emotion through stories that are human, that engage and resonate, captivate people’s imaginations, and ultimately transform human behavior. They all contribute to my skill set that lets me write as much as I design, teach, share, lead and learn, constantly expanding and embacing technologies that enables us to bring so much to life. A skill set that I would love to share with you,one that lets me get uncomfortable, one that lets me solve problems, deliver and create change. I love taking life and uniting it with the right technology, seeing the way it interacts with people, and enables us to learn and go where we might never have gone before. It’s fast, furious and fascinating, creates possibility and lets us open our minds. So to go back to my dad - he is still very much alive and I still don’t know if he was a spy. I don’t think it matters as what he really did was help create magic, at least in my mind. I love that he imbued me with the ability to create stories, events, ideas, products, magic...with others. A couple of things I’ve done outside the realm of work - I’ve had a food truck, a jam company, a baking company and a greeting card company before they were considered cool. I write kids books, make skeleton art and have been known to knit a backpack or two. My bragging rights moments include making lunch for Sir Richard Branson and jams for the Duchess of Kent. I’d love to work with you guys and build our own brand of curiosity together.
